Today marks the conclusion of a very successful Catholic Education week. The week commenced with our annual Athon day when the Cardijn and Marcellin communities got together to focus on our mission and make a difference. The annual Athon day began in 1987, when it was simply a walkathon to raise money for the most needy of people in our community. Today it has grown into a tradition with each House supporting a charity of their choice. The charities include Centacare, St Vincent de Paul, Canteen, Coolock House, Catherine House, Hutt Street Centre, Fred’s Van, Labs n’ Life and St Vincent de Paul Winter appeal.
Together the communities raised in excess of $13,000 to make a difference to people in our community. Athon day is led by our Year 12 students who have demonstrated again that they are leaders in our world which God desires. They led the day with dance and song, ensuring that everyone was included and made to feel they had contributed.
Catholic Education is making a difference in our Southern Vales region. We are building a thriving community of people, capable learners and leaders who are making a difference to this world. On this last day of Catholic Education week, all staff in our regional Catholic schools came to Cardijn to celebrate mass at St Luke’s. As a community, we are continually striving for the light which gives us vision and to make our schools beacons for the south.
